Dental Sealants for Kids
Thin protective coatings that seal the deep grooves of back teeth and help keep cavities away.
The chewing surfaces of molars have deep grooves where food and bacteria hide, and they are hard for young children to clean. Sealants fill in those grooves with a smooth, protective layer, lowering the chance of cavities during the years when kids are most at risk.
IS IT RIGHT FOR YOU?
Children and teens, ideally soon after their permanent molars come in, usually around ages six and twelve. Some adults with deep grooves and no fillings can benefit too.

What to Expect
The visit is quick and comfortable, with no drilling or numbing. We clean each tooth, apply the sealant and harden it with a special light. Your child can eat normally right afterward.
Common Questions
Quick answers to questions we hear often. See all FAQs
How long do sealants last?
Sealants can last for several years. We check them at each visit and touch them up if needed.
Do sealants replace brushing?
No. Sealants protect the chewing surfaces, but brushing, flossing and regular cleanings are still essential.
Are sealants noticeable?
They are clear or tooth-colored and sit on the back teeth, so they are very hard to see.
